For five years I have been responsible for Ikon Gallery's offsite visual arts programme titled Art at HMP Grendon.
Funded by the Marie-Louise von Motesiczky Charitable Trust, the focus of the residency is towards the development of artistic practice at HMP Grendon – that of artist in residence and of the prison’s communities.
Grendon is the world's only wholly therapeutic prison and a unique site to test visual arts practice. In 2022 Ikon opened the Marie-Louise von Motesiczky Studio at HMP Grendon – a dedicated space for art workshops with a changing programme of exhibitions. It is the only curated gallery inside a prison in the UK.
