MUSEUMS WITHOUT BOUNDARIES: EXPANDING THE NARRATIVE AND CONFRONTING BIASES
Phillips Collection
Coordinated by Anne Brittingham
How do we make choices about the artworks we use and display in the museum? How do we make decisions for what we do when planning programs? How can we lead with empathy when connecting with audiences? This interactive workshop will use the development of a collection-based game as a case study to explore how our perspectives, power, and identities influence what and how we teach. It will provide you with practical tools to check in on your biases in order to make museums more accessible to diverse audiences.
INSPIRED BY ANTIQUITIES - ENTERING INTO A RELATIONSHIP WITH ART THROUGH A HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE
National Archaeological Museum of Naples
Coordinate by Angela Vocciante and Annamaria Di Noia
With the Collaboration of Giovanna Castaldo, Academy of Fine Arts of Naples
The MANN has a long tradition of creating multi-sided relationships between works of art and the ancient communities they belong to, individual modern or contemporary artists and different audiences. Museum educators need multifaceted approaches by Museum educators to help build these relationships: empathy is a key ingredient in supporting mediation, with a special focus on accessibility and inclusion. With the exhibition Picasso and classical antiquity, we had the opportunity to test workshops aimed at increasing empathy with the artist and with the public. Now, let’s go, hands-on, through the workshop “The magic of etching”.
