Building a slavery museum from the bottom-up: a democratic approach
Peggy Brandon, Director and Museum Content, National Slavery Museum

The Netherlands are building a museum to educate and commemorate the historical Dutch involvement in the enslavement and trade in people of the African continent and the Indonesian-Oceanic region. The making of this museum is a democratic process. Persons from the diaspora of these regions actively participate in town-hall meetings to decide on the narratives, the contents of the museum and the effects of slavery in the now.
